2015 Election: President Jonathan will be banished from Ijaw land if he doesn't contest – Ex-militants

Militants in the Niger Delta, held a procession in the streets of Benin City weekend, calling on President Goodluck Jonathan to declare his intension to run for the 2015 presidential election.

The ex-militants who warned that the President may be banished in Ijaw land if he failed to do so, said they are not happy with some threats and provocative statements coming from the North, asserting that they will not allow any group or individual to intimidate their kinsman.

In a statement signed by the leader of the group, Godstime Ogidigba and Speaker, Peter Edah respectively, they also called on Nigerians to cooperate with the Federal.Government in the fight against Boko Haram, asserting that any attempt to stop Jonathan's presidency will be resisted.

According to the statement, "the call became necessary at a time like this when some individuals and selfish politicians are over heating the polity, making provocative comments, saying Mr President promised them that he will run for just one term as if they are now the constitution of the federal Republic of Nigeria.

"Therefore we warn any group of person or politicians that will attempt to stop Mr President from exercising his fundamental human right, this will put the unity of Nigeria in a great risk. We, therefore call on you to contest the seat of the President.

"That for any reason that make you not to contest come 2015, you should not come back home but remain in Abuja forever".

While expressing confidence that Nigeria will soon overcome the security challenges and the eventual release of the abducted Chibok girls, the repentant militants urged Nigerians to support the transformation agenda of the federal government.

Charly Boy disgraces Imo State Governor Okorocha at father's burial

Governor Rochas Okorocha and Charly boy

The first son of late Socrates of the Supreme Court, Justice Chukwudifu Oputa, Charly boy, yesterday disgraced Governor Rochas Okorocha at an Arequiem mass organised for his father in Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State.

Eye witnesses said that the mass which was conducted by the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Rt Rev. Matthew Hassan Kukah at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oguta, went on smoothly until Okorocha was permitted by the Bishop to pay his tribute to the fallen judge.

However, Chief Okorocha, was stopped midway into his speech, by Charley Boy who walked up angrily to the altar and snatched the micro-phone from the governor, to the embarrassment of all the dignitaries present. It was a disgrace to the governor.

Among eminent Nigerians present at the church service included representative of President Goodluck Jonathan, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, Governors Willie Obiano (Anambra), Theodore Orji (Abia); the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chief Emeka Ihedioha and former governors of Anambra State, Senator Chris Ngige and Mr Peter Obi respectively.

Also present, were the former governor of Imo State, Ikedi Ohakim, Senator Uche Chukwumerije and the Minister of Labour, Chief Emeka Wogu, the state Police Commsiioner, Almajid Ali and the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, for Oguta, Ikembuchukwu Abugu.

The intervention of Bishop Kukah could not assuage Charly Boy's anger as he insisted that no politician would take advantage of his father's burial to score "cheap political" goals. He insisted that the Governor should not speak at the event.

However, obviously embarrassed by Charley Boy's action, the Governor and members his entourage hurriedly left the church service mid-way, despite entreaties from the officiating Bishop Kuka for them to stay on.

It was gathered that Charly Boy's action followed a recent statement by Government House, Owerri, to the effect that the Oputa family was given N20 million to assist it in the burial arrangements.

Sources told Saturday Vanguard, however, that "the family never received a dime from either Okorocha or the state government, not to talk of the alleged N20 million said to have been made available to them,'' as reported by a section of the media".

Police Logo

The Police in Kano State said it had discovered 13 high calibre Improvised Explosive Devices, IEDs, at Sauna-Fafunga in Dakata area of Kano metropolis.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr.Aderenle Shinaba, displayed the devices to newsmen in Kano yesterday.

Shinaba said the explosives were.discovered at about 1.30p.m. in a rickety car parked near a Friday Mosque.

A 10 year old boy was said to have alerted the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, of the area when he notice some strange objects in the car.

"When we got the information, we quickly moved in to the place and in the course of screening the vehicle, our anti-bomb squad discovered the explosives.

"We are simply lucky; what we have here now has the capacity of destroying a whole village and the Abuja incident would have been a child's play.

"The explosives were primed to explode when the Juma'at prayer is going on and they can destroy a whole neighbourhood because they are of high calibre," he said.

He further said the police had to detonate one of them but the Anti-bomb Squad advised that they should be removed from the area.

"The cylinders discovered are of high calibre as they can ruin and destroy a whole village", the commissioner said.

Shinaba commended the people of Kano for the timely information they gave to the police which saved the situation.

Super Eagles refuse playing France over unpaid fee, President Jonathan intervenes

The Super Eagles players today refused to travel to Brasilia for their World Cup second round game with France. It took the intervention and assurance from President Goodluck Jonathan that the players will be paid all their fees by the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, before the players eventually agreed to travel.

It was reported earlier that the team opted for a meeting with NFF officials over payment of their appearance fees instead of training on Thursday.

The President was brought into the impasse by sports minister Tamuno Danagogo after federation head Aminu Maigari reported the situation to him.

In a phone call to the players who shared their fears, President Jonathan assured them that they would be paid all that they are entitled to. They then agreed to continue playing for their fatherland.

Super Eagles captain Joseph Yobo has told KickoffNigeria.com that they would take the flight on Friday.

"I can tell you as team captain that the team will travel to Brasilia today.and we will train, and play against France," he said.

2014 World Cup: Super Eagles boycott training over bonus money

Super Eagles players reportedly missed a scheduled training session yesterday after a disagreement with officials of the National Football Federation over bonus money.

BBC Sports reports that the players believe they are each $15,000 (£8,800) short of what they were expecting for reaching the last 16 in Brazil.

BBC Sport learned the problem lies in the interpretation of the bonus structure, with the players believing they will only receive $10,000 for their win 1-0 over Bosnia-Hercegovina.and $5,000 for the 0-0 draw with Iran.

The players' understanding was they would receive a $30,000 payment for qualifying from the group.

However, it is believed the Nigerian Football Federation's offer to the players includes the agreed win and draw bonuses plus 30% of the prize money due from Fifa for reaching the knockout stage.

This is understood to rise to 40% of the prize money from Fifa if Nigeria were to win their round of 16 match, 50%.for a quarter-final victory, 60% for a win in the semi-final stage and 70% for lifting the trophy.

While all parties work to find a resolution to the misunderstanding, coach Stephen Keshi has insisted it will not affect the team's performance.

And it has been confirmed to the BBC that the players will travel to Brasilia on Friday as scheduled and will train in the evening and over the weekend.

Suarez 4-month ban too harsh - victim Chiellini

The four month football ban ordered against Uruguay striker Luis Suarez for his World Cup bite is too harsh, the victim Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini said Friday.

"I have always considered unequivocal the disciplinary interventions by the competent bodies, but at the same time I believe that the proposed formula is excessive," said Chiellini on his website.

Football governing body FIFA slapped the four month ban from all football activity and a nine game international match suspension, effectively kicking Suarez out of the World Cup.

Suarez bit Chiellini during Uruguay's 1-0 victory over Italy in their World Cup Group D clash on Tuesday.

Chiellini said he felt for Suarez and his family.

"There only remains the anger and the disappointment about the match. At the moment, my only thought is for Luis and his family, because they will face a very difficult period.

"I sincerely hope he will be allowed to stay close to his teammates during the games, because such a ban is really alienating for a player."

Suarez bid farewell to his team-mates on Thursday as they prepared for Saturday's last 16 game with Colombia.

It is the third time Suarez has been banned for biting and opponent.

He served a seven-game ban for biting a player in November 2010 when he was with Dutch side Ajax and a 10 game suspension after biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic in April 2013.

The Uruguay federation said they planned to appeal and the player has received widespread support in his homeland.

Read Beyoncé’s Tribute to Michael Jackson on 5th Anniversary of His Death

Beyoncé has always credited Michael Jackson as one of her biggest inspirations. Yesterday Wednesday 25th June 2014 was the 5th anniversary of the death of the late King of Pop.

Beyonce on her website wrote an emotional piece of how.Michael changed her and helped her become a better performer. Read below...;

When I was just starting out, my first producer used to make me listen to Michael Jackson's live performance of "Who's Loving You."

He would have me watch that for hours back to back to back. What he wanted me to learn was his soul.

You could hear his soul.

And he was this little kid who hadn't experienced love but he was a vessel. For whatever reason he could evoke more emotion than an adult.

It was so raw and so pure. It was these little things that he did that were just swag.

It's something that's God given.

Michael taught me that sometimes you have to forget technique, forget what you have on. If you feel silly, you have to go from the gut just let it go.

Michael Jackson changed me, and helped me to become the artist I am thank you Michael.

Love always,
B

Kim and Kanye West are reportedly butting heads over Kim's obsessive compulsive desire to hoard things.

Sources tell Dish Nation, "Kim rents two storage lockers and had two rooms in her old house reserved for piles of clothes and shoes she never wears."

Kim has confessed on her reality show that she's a hoarder though.

Boko Haram members flee Sambisa forest over snake bites and spiritual attacks

Boko Haram members are now fleeing the Sambisa forest to local governments areas across Borno State owing to strange developments in the forest, believed to be a spiritual attack, Dailypost reports.

This was revealed by two members of the Islamic militants arrested on Wednesday at Mairi ward behind University of Maiduguri by members of the Civilian JTF.

According to Kolo Mustapha, one of the insurgents arrested, snakes are now attacking them in the forest.

"Most of us are fleeing because there are too many snakes now in the forest, once they bite, they disappeared and the victims do not last for 24 hours.

"We were told that the people of Chibok local government are the ones turning into snake and attacking us in the forest", he disclosed.

He said some of their leaders have escaped to Cameroon because they are known to the Nigerian authorities and could be easily identified.

According to him, those of them who lived all their lives in Maiduguri have nowhere to go but to return to the town.

He said they came in Tuesday and were trying to hide in some uncompleted building when some members of the Civilian JTF identified and arrested them.

"We are pleading with them to spare our lives, we were forced into the sect, but we know that it is not the right way. I have never killed anyone, but my friend here has killed people", he said.

Umar Abor, the other sect member arrested said Kolo Mustapha was lying as all of them had participated in all heinous acts by the sect in the past.

"We have fought together since 2010, we have fought in Marte, Bama, Buni Yadima and Gwoza. We were not in Chibok, we have not seen the girls but we heard about it. Our leaders have been talking about it and we have been following all news from the radio.

"We decided to flee when almost all our comrades are leaving the Sambisa because of constant attacks by snakes, which we were told was as a result of the Chibok girls abducted.

"They (our leaders) told us that it was the people of Chibok that are hunting us through diabolical means in the form of snakes. We were in the forest in 2010 and 2011; we left and came back last year but we have never experienced snakes as this year. It is believed that the Chibok people are using "juju" to pursue us because of their children", he said.

According to him, they had realized their mistakes and had turned a new leaf.

The also promised that if spared, they would help the community in fishing out some of their members.

Ali Musa, leader of the Civilian JTF at Bama road, who arrested the sect members told DailyPost that many of them have been fleeing the Sambisa forest since last two weeks.

"These ones have not attempted to run or do anything stupid, they promised to take us to where they hide their weapons, now we are taking them to our chairman in sector 5, before they will be handed over to security operatives."

Boko Haram attacks military post, abducts soldiers

Men suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sect on Tuesday night attacked a military post at Bulabulin Ngaura in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State and killed 16 soldiers while some were abducted.

One of the soldiers that narrowly escaped the attack, who confirmed this to journalists in Maiduguri, said, "We were totally subdued by the insurgents."

He said, "Some of my colleagues were abducted and many others escaped with bullet wounds. Dozens of Boko Haram insurgents stormed our checkpoint at Bulabulin on Tuesday night.

"The terrorists came in a convoy of over 30 vehicles, mounted with Anti Aircraft guns (AA)."

On how he was able to escape unhurt, he said, "I was at the checkpoint when the terrorists came, we tried our best but they had advantage over us. They had AA and we had Ak47 rifles that are not fully loaded. When we realised that they had taken over the place, some of us escaped to Maiduguri and other places but many could not make it.

"As I am talking to you, 16 bodies of our colleagues have been brought to Maiduguri, this is apart from those that sustained injuries and many others that are missing in action."

As of the time of filing the report, the military authorities have not issued a press statement on the attack.
