2014 World Cup: Super Eagles will qualify for next round – President Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday expressed the conviction that the Super Eagles will scale through the group stage and qualify for the next round of the ongoing World Cup holding in Brazil.

Jonathan spoke while receiving the Adamu Muazu-led National Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party who visited the Presidential Villa to congratulate him on the party's victory in the Ekiti State governorship election.

He said the fact that the Super Eagles triumphed over their counterparts from Bosnia Herzegovina at a time Ayo Fayose of the PDP won the governorship election showed that a new nation was unfolding.

The President said it would have been devastating for Nigerians if the players had lost their last match.

He said although the Super Eagles will be meeting a top soccer playing nation, Argentina, in its last group match, the Nigerian players would also triumph.

The President said, "Last night, the Super Eagles made all Nigerians to smile.

"I know the game is not over until we play the last match but at least, at this time, I congratulate the country and Nigerians for what the Super Eagles have done.

"If we had lost that match, it would have been most devastating for us.

"Even though we know we still have a top soccer country to meet, I am convinced that we shall triumph.

"I am convinced that we will go into the next round."
