Ebola: US is yet to formally request for Nigeria's assistance

The United States is yet to make a formal request for Nigeria's assistance in combating the deadly Ebola virus disease which has hit the country, Nigeria's Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu said on Monday.

The US had last week recorded its first case of EVD in Dallas. A patient reportedly transported the virus in from Liberia.

There have been speculations that US President Barak Obama would seek the intervention of Nigeria considering how the Federal Government successfully contained the deadly virus in Lagos and Port Harcourt.

A statement from the Director of Centre for Disease Control and the Texas Health Department, Dr. Tom Frieden, said the patient had been hospitalised while contact tracing had commenced.
