Boko Haram opens fire on sleeping students in Yobe state

Boko Haram gunmen this morning Sunday September 29th stormed the student dormitory of the College of Agriculture in Gujba, Yobe State, shooting students as they slept.

Security forces were at the scene but details on the number of dead and injured were not yet available, area military spokesman Lazarus Eli said

It was carried out by "Boko Haram terrorists who went into the school and opened fire on students," while they were sleeping, he added.

"I cannot die" - Boko Haram leader Shekau appears in video after death claims

Leader of the Boko Haram sect, Abubakur Shekau, who was believed to have been killed after engaging in a shootout with the Nigerian military, about three months ago, was said to have resurfaced, as he spoke on tape on Wednesday, boasting his invincibility and threatening to ground democracy in Nigeria.

Shekau, surrounded by dozens of his lieutenants, all dressed in military fatigues, spoke amid laughter and sarcasm, as he took responsibility for recent attacks in Borno State.

The Boko Haram leader, who spoke while sitting in a bush environment with birds chirping at the background, said his ultimate aim was to ensure democracy ceased to exist in Nigeria.

He also mocked the Nigerian army, as he said group had succeeded in taking possession of three of their armoured tankers, large cache of arms and fleets of military vehicles and troops.

"The world should know that I cannot die except by the will of Allah. I have told you that all that I do is prescribed by the Quran.

"The essence of it is to carry out the injunctions. Don't bother yourselves stopping me because I cannot be stopped.

"The war is more grievous than you think, and it will consume you. I swear by Allah that there will be no democracy in Nigeria.

We are going to rise against it and we shall soon defeat it. The concept of government of the people by the people, for the people cannot continue to exist. It shall soon, very soon, be replaced by government of Allah, by Allah for Allah.

"It was said that I was killed, but here I am; I deliberately refused to respond on time; but here I am talking and laughing at Nigerian authorities, who misled the world that I am dead.

"I believe by now Lieutenant-Colonel Sagir Musa, who issued the statement of my death, should bury his head in shame; President (Goodluck) Jonathan should bury his head in shame; President Barack Obama should bury his head in shame, President François Hollande should bury his head in shame.

"How shameful is it for Nigerian military for a man they called inconsequential to defeat them and seize their tankers and arms? We have celebrated our victory in Monguno, Benisheik and surrounding villages, and we shall not relent until total victory comes our way, by Allah's will," he said.

It will be recalled that the disbanded Joint Task Force (JTF) in Borno State had, on August 9, issued a statement through its spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Musa, now spokesman of the Army, 7 Division, that Shekau may have been killed in a military shootout on June 30."

Justin Bieber throws long term pals Lil Twist and Lil Za out of his home after his expensive jewellery was stolen

Some of Justin Bieber's very expensive jewellery has reportedly gone missing from his Calabasas, California, home.

And the 19-year-old is said to have blamed his friends Lil Twist and Lil Za for the theft as the pair were house sitting when the items first disappeared.

Upon discovering the apparent robbery, the troubled pop star is alleged to have kicked the two brothers out of his home and his entourage.

On Tuesday, Justin attempted to scotch the rumours of theft with a post on Instagram stating: 'Don't listen to em. I still got all my jewelry. (sic)'

But the posting, according to TMZ, disappeared less than a half hour later.

Lil Twist, 20, and Lil Za, 17, were occupying the teen idol's Southern California home while he was touring around the world to promote his Believe album.

The pair, who share the moniker of 'Lil', are said to have thrown quite a few parties in the star's absence.

While Justin had no way of ascertaining who stole his jewellery, he blamed his friends for allowing the theft to happen under their vigil – leading him to take action and kick the duo out for good.

Married woman caught having sex with Okada man in bush

A mild drama played out in Orlu, Imo State, when a commercial motorcyclist, a father of two (names withheld), was caught pants down making love to a married woman in a lonely bush.

While the 45-year-old housewife was making a case of rape against the randy motorcyclist, the 30-year-old man insisted that the woman was his concubine.

Giving account of what transpired to the police, the woman said she engaged the motorcyclist at Orlu to take her to her matrimonial home at Obibi-Ochasi.

She said when they got to a solitary area along the route, the man stopped ostensibly to ease himself.

She further told the police that while she was waiting for him to finish easing himself, the man emerged and started asking that they sleep together, adding that when she refused the amorous advance, the man grabbed her and forcefully lifted her into the bush.

The woman equally claimed that the rapist tore her inner wears to shreds, over-powered and raped her.

In his defence, the man claimed that the woman had been his concubine for years, adding that he had previously had fun with her at different times and places, including the spot where they were caught in the act.

He also claimed that he called the woman on her mobile line and asked her to meet him at the agreed spot in Orlu.

The man also claimed that when they got to the bush, the woman stripped herself naked, spread her wrapper on the ground and laid down before he started the act.

The randy motorcyclist, however, agreed that along the line there was a minor misunderstanding on the amount he should pay after they had satisfied themselves.

While the man claimed that the woman was asking for N500 for the service, he offered N200, which he said was the only money on him at the time.

Vanguard equally gathered that plan was in top gear to arraign the alleged rapist in court to face trial.

Woman going on a 'spiritual journey' rescued from drowning over N500

There was pandemonium, yesterday, in Awka when a middle-aged woman escaped death at Ezu River, where over 23 mystery corpses were found few months ago.

The woman, Ms. Peace Nnabuife, from Ezeoye, Nibo in Awka South Local Government of the state, had entered the river on a "spiritual journey" when she suddenly slipped and almost drowned.

Some young men, using canoe, were said to have gone to the river bank to perform some sacrifices when they saw the drowning woman and helped her.

They were leaving when her N500 fell into the river. She went for the money and got swept off by the river. Roots of trees were said to have stopped her from being taken away by the river.

She said: "I came here so that Ezu River will carry me to Nibo. We travel through rivers to our meeting place in the depth of the river, where our queen's kingdom is.

"I came with cellophane bag and I had N500 in it. The N500 fell into the river as the water carried me."

Asked where she was going for the meeting, she said, "we hold our meetings at Ezu Agulu and I am still in the junior category."

Gunmen rape girl in front of her fiance, give her N500 as birthday gift

Residents of Nsukka, Enugu State were recently stunned when a young girl who was celebrating her birthday with her lover boy, was raped by gunmen in front of her fiance and was given N500 as birthday gift.

The incident occurred last Saturday, when the girl's boyfriend, identified as Sunday Ozioko, 30, took out his lover in his new Toyota Camry saloon car as part of the birthday celebration.

It was gathered that the gunmen, who reportedly rode in a motorcycle, blocked Sunday along Orba Road at 6.30pm, and took over his Camry and zoomed off through Orba Market to Obollo-Afor.

They stopped at Alor-Ano Community Secondary School, raped the girl and shot her fiance in the head.

A resident of the community disclosed that when the two sex-crazed men were satisfied, around 9:30pm, they gave the victim N500 and abandoned her at Odolu in Kogi State.

When the men realised that the girl could identify them later, they took after her again, but she escaped through a path that led her to a crusade ground, where Adonai Faith Assembly was having a vigil.

The girl was said to have narrated her horrible encounter to the congregation, disclosing that her fiance was still in a critical condition.

According to a source, the pastor of the church alerted the police at Nsukka Urban, who quickly rushed him to Bishop Shanahan Hospital, Nsukka.

Sunday has been transferred to UNTH, Enugu, for a surgical operation on his head.

Enugu State Police spokesman, Ebere Amarizu, who confirmed the sad and shocking incident said the command was currently investigating the matter to bring those behind the devilish attack to book.

Ex-lover Tenant kills Landlord, Sets house on fire over quit notice

A tenant of a house on Asuquo Eyo Street, Ifa Ikot Okpon, Uyo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, identified simply as Ime, aka Shawa, has been accused of killing his landlord and the wife and also setting the house ablaze.

It was said that Ime, 40, had attacked his landlord, Mr. Edem Akpan and his wife, Affiong, with matchete before setting the house on fire.

One of the daughters to the late couple, Ms. Emem Akpan, narated that trouble started when her father gave Ime a quit notice. She said Ime had threatened that if her father insisted on sending him (Ime) out, he would kill him and burn down the house.

She said, "We thought it was just a mere threat. None of us could believe that Ime was capable of doing what he said.

"Two days ago, we saw him bringing worn out tyres into the compound. We didn't know he had a plan.

"Yesterday (Sunday), before
we left for church in the
evening, he brought 20 litres of
fuel, more than what his
generator could contain.

"A neighbour asked him what
he wanted to do with such
quantity of fuel, but he told
him that he was going to run
the generator overnight.

"This is what we saw this morning as we returned from church - the fuel and worn out tyres were weapons used by the assailant to kill my parents."

Another daughter and ex-girlfriend of Ime, Ms. Ruth Jeremiah, said she parted ways with Ime a year and three months ago. She said it was because Ime did not let her know his parents and his surname that made her to terminate the relationship.

She said that for the three years she dated Ime, she did not know anything about him except his alias - Shawa.

"I decided to end the relationship with Ime because he was not straight forward. He wanted to marry me, but whenever I asked him to take me to his people, he would refuse," she said

She stated that Ime had removed his property in the house before killing her parents and setting the house ablaze.

Asked if there was tenancy agreement which could lead to the arrest of the assailant, Jeremiah stated that there was nothing like that as the father offered Ime his house based on a gentleman's agreement.

Sacked Minister returns back to school

Prof. Ruqayyatu Rufa'i, who was among the nine ministers relieved of their positions by President Goodluck Jonathan in a cabinet reshuffle on Wednesday, says she will be going back to the university to teach.

She disclosed this when handing over the affairs of the education ministry to the Minister of State for Education, Chief Nyesom Wike, as directed by President Jonathan.

Before her appointment as a minister, Rufa'i was a professor of Curriculum Studies at the Bayero University, Kano.

"I called you here to witness the handing over because as you are all aware my tenure as minister has expired along with eight others.

"I am going back to resume my job as a professor of Curriculum Studies at the Bayero University Kano, that is where I came from on secondment.

"We should know that a time like this will come because if it does not, death is surely an end."

She expressed gratitude to the President for the opportunity given her to serve as a cabinet minister.

"I have enjoyed a close working relationship with the President.

"Of course, there were times we had our disagreements, but overall we enjoyed working together."

Rufa'i, who also thanked Wike and other officials of the ministry for the support she enjoyed during her tenure in the ministry, tasked them not to relent in achieving the sector's goal of Access and Quality.

In his remarks, Wike described Rufa'i's exit as "painful" but said that "when we are not in control, there is nothing we can do".

President Goodluck Jonathan sacks Minister of Education and 8 others

Today, President Goodluck Jonathan shocked members of the Federal Executive Council as he sacked nine members of the council.

swollen genitals after a charm

farmland close to his, backfired.

It was gathered that Mamudu, a
cassava farmer, had engaged
another farmer whose farmland
is close to his own in a quarrel
during the last harvest and
allegedly threatened to make life
unbearable for him.

He was also alleged to have
reported a case of trespass into
his farmland to elders of the
community even as he told the
elders that his neighbour used
fetish means to suppress his
own crops, citing the instance
of the last season harvest where
most of his crops were
damaged while the other farmer
had a bountiful harvest.

The community elders were said
to have blamed Mamudu's
condition on his jealous attitude
and warned him against the
dangers.

Sources told LEADERSHIP that
this did not go down well with
him and he sought the help of a
native doctor to assist him with
fetish substance.

Trouble started last weekend
when he reportedly came home
with a substance he claimed
was prepared for him to grow
his cassava farm well but he
mistakenly planted on the path
leading to the farm and crossed
it against the warning of the
native doctor leaving him with
swollen genital organs.

Confessing to his crime, the
farmer admitted that the
substance was fetish adding
that he violated the instructions,
resulting in his present
situation.

27-yr-old man rapes his 60-yr-old mother

An Ado-Ekiti Magistrate Court in Ekiti State yesterday, remanded one Akintunde Omotehinde, 27, in prison custody for allegedly raping his 60-year-old mother.

Prosecutor Ebenezer Ewuola told the court that the accused committed the offence on August 23, in Ajebamidele Area of Ado-Ekiti.

He claimed that the accused 'forcefully and unlawfully' had carnal knowledge of his mother, which led to her being hospitalised.

He added that on the same date, the accused assaulted and inflicted injuries on one, Isiaka Ojo, who attempted to separate him from his mother during the act.

He said the offence contravened Section 358 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

The prosecutor said he had sent his case file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, for legal advice.

The accused plea was not taken.

The magistrate, Mrs Patricia Ajibade, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody, pending the DPP's legal advice and adjourned the case till October 16.

A 34-year-old fake Soldier, Emmanuel Joseph has been arrested by the police at Elemoro Division, Ibeju Lekki, Lagos, after he battered a labourer for allegedly refusing to give him a N3,000 bribe.

The severely injured victim, James Ihonde, a native of Benin City, who now is at hospital, told the police about what had happened: "I went to Hi-Tech yard to eat in a canteen and I met a man in military uniform with his friend inside the canteen. I requested for food from the owner of the canteen.

"Suddenly the man in the military uniform barked at me and said I have no respect for the Nigerian Army and that I was supposed to salute him, a military man, before requesting for food inside the canteen.

He later said I must pay him and his colleague the sum of N3,000 as bribe before I could eat food in the canteen.

Immediately I replied that he has no right to challenge me inside the canteen, the man and his friend descended on me and beat me with military belt and wood.

They stripped me naked and
inflicted injuries on my two
eyes and parts of my body.

They stole my handset, the
N4,000 in my pocket and the
sum of N6,000 belonging to the
owner of the canteen. They
later demanded for the sum of
N3,000 from me as bribe
before they could allow me to
go and treat myself.

Residents in the area
contributed the money and
gave it to them before they
abandoned me and left the
scene."

After the incident, the police
officers traced the suspect to a
beer parlour and arrested one
of them. During interrogation,
Emmanuel Joseph, the arrested
suspect, confessed to the crime
and denied being a military
officer.

When asked about the military
camouflage uniform he was
wearing, Joseph said that he
wears the uniform to cheat
members of the public because
he was jobless.

"I am not a soldier. I wear the military camouflage to harass and intimidate people and dispossess them of their belongings to survive since I am jobless.

I learnt the military tactics when I attended a military secondary school in Akure, Ondo State. I regret my actions," he allegedly told the police.

The fake soldier has being charged before a Tinubu Magistrate's court, Lagos on a five-count charge of felony to wit, assault occasioning harm, stealing and impersonation.

The offences the suspect committed, said the prosecutor, Supol A. C. Orji, contravened sections 409, 171,285 and 77a of the criminal laws of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and the Magistrate, Mrs. S. K Matepo, admitted him on bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The matter was adjourned till 24 September, 2013 for mention, while the defendant was taken to Ikoyi Prisons pending when he will fulfil the bail conditions.

Police arrest two for allegedly raping 4-year-old girl to death

Police Command says it has
arrested two men for allegedly
raping a four-year-old girl to
death in Sandamu town of the
state.

The state Deputy Commissioner
of Police, Mr Bala Senchi, told
reporters on Monday in Katsina
that the girl died few hours
after the incident on Sept. 8.

Senchi said that the deceased
was allegedly lured into the act
while on an errand to a
relation's home.

He said the girl had complained
of headache to her parents
when she returned and was
directed by her mother to go to
bed.

According to Senchi, the parents
immediately reported the matter
to the police in Sandamu when
they noticed blood stain on her
pant.

"The girl was taken by the police
to the General Hospital Daura,
where she later died.

"On investigation by the state
CID, doctors at the hospital said
the deceased was raped,"
Senchi said.

He said that two men had been
arrested in connection with the
incident.

In another development, the
command also confirmed the
arrest of the seven men who
allegedly raped and
impregnated a 12-year-old girl
in Malumfashi Local Government
area of the state.

Senchi said the suspects had
allegedly confessed to have had
sexual intercourse with the girl.

The Deputy Commissioner of
Police added that the cases
would soon be charged to
court.

Senchi appealed to parents not
to send their little children,
especially girls, on errands
unaccompanied.

Your decision to leave school wouldn't have gone down well with your parents, how did they react to it and what was constantly coming to your mind back then?

It was not an easy decision to make. There were days that I had to live in the studio. Talking about my parents' reaction, I had to lie for a while, pretended as if all was well. Before my parents knew I wasn't in school, it was too late to complain because I was already on TVs, making money and rocking shows all around.

Would you consider going back to school someday?

I'm in school already, studying public safety and Common Law at Capella university. It is an online programme. I can't think of any other course except law.

Would you trade your being famous for something else if you look at some of the bad side of fame that you have experienced over time?

Yes, I will love to trade fame
with some silent life that does
not arrogate too much attention
to one, but it has got nothing to
do with any bad experience. No
matter what you do or who you
are, there's always a difficult
time and life challenges that you
can't run away from. But I will
really love to trade because I
wish to be a lawyer.That has
always been my dream.

Do you think life would have been different for you should you have been a lawyer?

Honestly, life as a normal person is fine and more wonderful, free, fair and peaceful. But as a public figure, you enjoy more and you pay more in terms of the price you pay for being famous. If I come to this world again, I would prefer normal life.
