"I will be present in 2015 and I will do what I am going to do to ensure that Jonathan wins in 2015" - Asari Dokubo

Former President of Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) and leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force (NDPVF), Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, who was arrested last week in Republic of Benin, said he was arrested and interrogated by Benin officials over an allegation from Nigeria that he is a leader of Boko Haram.

He has accused those who opposed the second term ambition of President Goodluck Jonathan of masterminding his arrest.

Speaking to journalists at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, he described the report that Jonathan sent a presidential jet to fly him into Nigeria from Benin as lies.

His words: "Crisis is normal, it can also happen here in Nigeria, it can happen anywhere in the world. The people and government of Republic of Benin have no problem with me.

"But if people alleged that somebody is a leader of Boko Haram, the government of that country will investigate the person.

"The allegation has much to do with 2015 because when you read comments on social media, you find out that people who are against President Goodluck Jonathan said they should vilify me, and make sure I die before 2015.

"But they are not going to succeed. I am not going to die. I will be present in 2015, and I will do what I am going to do to ensure that Jonathan wins in 2015. There is nothing they can do about it. This is their last fight and it is so unfortunate that the way they are going with show how immature they are.

"I just arrived from Cotonou. I drove in my car from Cotonou to Lagos airport where I boarded a flight to Abuja. The report is not true. No presidential jet was sent to me."

Asked whether President Jonathan intervened to secure his release, he said: "It is not just only President Jonathan that intervened, Nigerians generally intervened. The number of people that came into Cotonou the day I was taken in, and the following day, were over one thousand."

House Of Reps member slumps and dies after having sex with female banker

A member of the House of Representatives Raphael Oloye Nomiye, from Ondo State slump and died in the early hours of yesterday.

The 50-year-old lawmaker who until his death represented Ondo, Ilaje, Ese Odo in Ondo State under the platform of the Labour Party, was said to have died shortly after an affair with a female banker.

According to reports, the banker, who managed his accounts, was said to have rushed down from the one-storey building to inform the policemen on guard at the house that "oga just fell down and is vomiting blood."

They said when the policemen entered into his room upstairs, they found him laying on the floor with a towel tied round his waist, while he bled from the mouth. He was then quickly taken to a private clinic.

It was further learnt that doctors at clinic declined to attend to him, saying it was a "serious" matter, following which he was then rushed to the National Hospital, Abuja, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police sources disclosed that the banker, who is now in police custody at the Gwarinpa Police Division, had earlier denied having sexual affair with the lawmaker before his death.

But she was said to have changed her statement after doctors at the National Hospital conducted an examination on corpse, which confirmed that the deceased had slept with a woman shortly before his demise.

The sources said after the test, the banker admitted to interrogators that she had actually slept with the deceased and had helped him to clean up, following which he went into the bathroom, where he suddenly fell and began to vomit blood.

Man bags 5 years jail term for selling his child for N10m

A Niger State magistrate court sitting in Minna, the state capital, has sentenced one Isah Aliyu to five years imprisonment for intending to sell his 9-year-old child for N10m.

The 30-year-old man attributed his action to poverty.

The incident occurred on November 15 when the buyer, one Mallam Magaji, agreed to buy the child for N7 million. But the buyer promised to pay half of the money and balance at a later date. The father of the child was said to have refused because of his desperation to collect the N7 million at once.

After the negotiation, the father agreed to the half payment but, instead of bringing the money, the buyer headed for the police station to report the deal.

The police then followed Magaji to the meeting place and arrested Aliyu who was still waiting for the money so that he could hand over his son. Aliyu was charged to court under the clause prohibiting selling of child in the Niger State Child's Right Act.

Aliyu pleaded guilty and was summarily sentenced to five years imprisonment by Chief Magistrate Hassan Mohammed.

When asked why he intended to sell his son, the convict said, "The poverty in the country is biting and things are difficult for me and my family. I felt since the boy was under my custody and he is my son, I could sell him and use the money to cater for the rest of the family."

The Chief Magistrate described his reason as inhuman, adding that poverty was not a strong reason for the father to sell his son.

He sentenced Aliyu to five years imprisonment without option of fine.

His marathon sex sometimes makes me faint - Wife seeks divorce, it can’t kill her - Husband

A 45-year-old trader, Muina Adelami, has asked a Lagos family court in Lagos State to dissolve her eight-year-old marriage to her husband, Shuaib, a clerical officer, on the ground that his sex drive was high.

"I have managed to stay this long in the marriage because I thought his libido would go down but that has not been the case.

"In the eight years of our marriage, we only have a child, I had two miscarrages as a result of excessive sex."

She informed the court further that her husband liked sex too much and gave her no breathing space.

"We start having sex every night just before midnight and this goes on till the early hours of the next day. Many times, immediately after he comes back from work, he starts demanding for sex.

"He will refuse to stand up even when I am crying and will start beating me whenever I complain.

"There were time I did faint, but when I came
around, he would start
again. The way he's going, he will
kill me. I now look older than
my age mates due to too much sex," she said.

In his defence, Shuaib admitted to having a high sex drive, but added that it was his right to have sex with his wife.

"I was advised to marry a younger wife but I cannot afford that, that is why I take care of her and give her everything she wants.

"I have been trying to change her mind on the issue of divorce, but she is adamant. I love her and would not want to divorce her. I also know that sex can't kill her" he said.

The case was adjourned till December 4.

Teacher beats 4-yr-old student to death for being stubborn

Detectives in Ondo State have detained a primary school teacher, Alade Adebayo, for allegedly flogging to death a 4-year-old female pupil Elizabeth Wanogha.

The deceased pupil was a student of a private primary school, Falaye Memorial Nursery and Primary School, located at Fanibi area in Akure metropolis.

The teacher, according to report, accused the deceased of being stubborn in the class. He was said to have beaten the girl to a state of coma.

Cries from other pupils in the class reportedly attracted other teachers who rushed to the scene where they found that the girl had fainted.

She was said to have been rushed to a private hospital and was admitted but reportedly died later.

Police authorities, however, said that the pupil died two weeks after the beating by the suspect.

The father of the deceased, Mr Wanogha lodged a complaint at the Fanibi Police station, alleging that his daughter died as a result of the injuries sustained from the severe beating by her teacher.

Following the complaint, the teacher was arrested for interrogation.

The father of the deceased pupil insisted that the teacher should be prosecuted for murder.

Ogodo however said that people should not jump into conclusion that it was the beating which took place about two weeks earlier that led to the death of the pupil.

13-year-old boy stabs classmate to death over damaged earphone

The police in Kogi have arrested a 13-year-old boy, Yinusa Halilu, for allegedly killing his friend and classmate, Mustapha Kazeem, 12, over a damaged earpiece.

Austin Evakhabokun, the Acting Commissioner of Police in Kogi, made this known to journalists on Monday in Lokoja.

Evakhabokun said that a scuffle ensued between the suspect and the deceased, both primary school pupils, when the suspect demanded the return of the earpiece he lent to the deceased.

He said that the late Kazeem said that the earpiece was damaged and Halilu demanded monetary compensation for the damaged earphone.

He said that the demand enraged the deceased who reportedly called the suspect a thief, adding that this resulted in an exchange of hot words, as Halilu insisted on collecting the money by force.

Evakhabokun said that Kazeem became furious and rushed into the house, brought out a sharp cutlass and inflicted cuts on the suspect's head.

He said that the suspect reportedly rushed to a nearby restaurant with his machete cuts and picked a sharp knife, with which he stabbed the deceased in the chest, leading to his death.

In an interview with newsmen, the suspect said that he borrowed the telephone earpiece from someone, saying that he insisted on replacing it since he did not know what to tell the owner.

He said that Kazeem was his friend and that they were both in Primary Five.

Halilu said that the deceased hit him on his head with a machete, adding that in retaliation, he stabbed him in the chest, which led to his death.

Nigeria to sell oil refineries next year

Deziani Alison Madueke

Africa's largest oil producer, Nigeria plans to begin privatizing its four state-owned oil refineries before the end of the first quarter, Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke said.

Alison-Madueke said in an interview with Bloomberg TV Africa in London, "We would like to see major infrastructural entities such as refineries moving out of government hands into the private sector. Government does not want to be in the business of running major infrastructure entities and we haven't done a very good job at it over all these years."

Towards the end of former President Obasanjo's administration in 2007, the refineries were sold to companies owned by billionaire Aliko Dangote and Femi Otedola, but the sale was reversed by the President Musa Yar'Adua government that took over from Obasanjo.

Bus driver strips naked to avoid being arrested

There was drama at the Palmgrove Bus Stop, Ikorodu Road, Lagos State, on Monday when a commercial bus driver stripped naked to avoid being arrested by officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority.

The LASTMA officials had blocked five different commercial buses for indiscriminately taking passengers by the side of the road.

Passengers in the four vehicles were asked to alight, as officials of the traffic agency took over the wheels of the impounded vehicles.

There was however drama when the old man who drove the fifth bus suddenly went inside his bus and brought out a bowl.

A fetid odour emanating from the bowl polluted the fresh morning air.

The LASTMA officers, policemen and commuters ran for cover.

But one of the officials came back and stood his ground, wielding a baton and insisting that the man must follow them.

When it became obvious that the odour strategy had failed, the driver began pulling off his clothes, prostrating by the front tyres of the vehicle and rolling on the floor.

A crowd formed around the area, with some of the bystanders capturing the scene with their camera phones.

One of the officials was heard telling his colleagues to "leave him alone and let him go."

However, they took close shots of the vehicle number plate, and the driver, before taking other seized vehicles away.

A resident who said he knew the old man well said, "That is how the man usually does. His bus plies Lagos Island everyday and he picks his passengers from that spot."

The source, who did not identify himself, added that it was the second time the man would put up the show.

He said the bus was owned by a military officer.

When the old man was, however, confronted with the allegation of being a serial offender, he said, "Look, whoever wants to talk should talk. Everybody has his problems and I have mine." He then drove the vehicle into a filling station.

Photos: Meet 2-year-old boy who is addicted to smoking cigarette, Smokes 40 in a day

At the age of two, this toddler shocked the world when photos of him were revealed as he was chain-smoking cigarettes.

Now, at age 5, he has reportedly kicked the habit, although he now seems to have another addiction, Food.

Aldi Rizal was discovered in a poor village in Sumatra, Indonesia, puffing on a cigarette while riding his tricycle.

After his lifestyle was discovered, he was taken for play therapy sessions in the capital Jakarta for two weeks to take his mind off his 40-a-day habit and learn to be a normal toddler for the first time.

Now, a new documentary has shown the progress made by this little boy. It has been revealed that he has managed to stay off the cigarettes, but is still dangerously unhealthy.

His mother revealed that Aldi faces temptation often:

"There are many people still offering Aldi cigarettes, but Aldi no."

However, Mrs Rizal is now worried about her son's weight, as he developed food cravings while quitting smoking, and now has a big appetite.

Mrs Rizal said the strong-willed little boy now demands food in the same way he used to beg for cigarettes, and the family struggles not to give in to his tantrums.

She said: "When Aldi first quit smoking he would demand a lot of toys.

"He would bang his head on the wall if he couldn't get what he wanted. That's why I get him cigarettes in the first place - because of his temper and his crying.

"Now I don't give him cigarettes, but he eats a lot. With so many people living in the house it's hard to stop him from getting food."

Mrs Rizal must also persuade Aldi's siblings and the rest of the family not to give in and provide him with junk food when she is not around.

Doctors hope that if Aldi can lose around half a stone to a stone, his weight will eventually even out as he starts to grow taller.
