Nigerian business mogul, Aliko Dangote has made history as the first black man to break into the rank of top 25 richest people in the world with a wealth of $25 billion from $16.1 billion in 2013, according to Forbes Magazine lists of the richest people in the world.
For the fourth year running, Dangote retained his position in Africa as the richest man of the continent.
Meanwhile, Bill Gates has, according to Forbes regained the title of Richest Person in the World following an upsurge in the value of Microsoft stock.
Although Bill Gates has held the top spot for 15 of the past 20 years, the last four years had seen Mexico's Carlos Slim take the crown from the former Microsoft CEO. Thanks to a marked increase in the value of Microsoft stock over the last year, though, Gate's fortune has risen to new heights, with Forbes estimating his net worth as being $76 billion. In comparison Slim is now worth $72 billion.
Gates has risen to the top again despite his Microsoft stock taking up less than a third of his fortune, with Forbes pointing out that Steve Ballmer may soon have more stock than Gates, making him the company's biggest shareholder.
