Last sunday when the news of the attempt by suspected Boko Haram members to break out of the Department of State Security Service in the Asokoro district of Abuja broke, one question has being running through my mind: 'How will "1 snatched rifle" engage the whole DSS and Army in a shootout for over 2 hours?'
Yesterday, the Director of Defence Information, Maj. Gen Chris Olukolade in a phone interview on Nigeria Info FM Abuja was asked to comment on how 1 rifle could last for over 2 hours, he replyed by saying whatever statement the DSS released, Nigerians should just believe.
The Spokeswoman for the DSS, Marylyn Ogar yesterday said "What happened was that the suspects' handlers went to feed the detainees here but suddenly they attacked him with their handcuffs, disarmed him and started shooting. The military was quickly called in before they could do any harm and that is responsible for the shootings you heard. It was an attempted jailbreak but it has been brought under control."
Let me break down what she said; the suspects' handler was attacked when he went to feed them, they collected his gun even though they were handcuffed. The military was quickly called in and the suspects who had 1 gun engaged them in shootout (that lasted for over 2 hours).
THE BIG QUESTIONS are; 1. How did 1 rifle which is reported to hold 90 rounds last for over 2 hours? 2. Why were 21 other suspects killed? (Note that the suspects were handcuffed and had only one gun)
This are questions i think needs answers.
1 snatched rifle engaged the whole DSS and Army in a shootout for over 2 hours and lead to the killing of 21 suspect, are we safe in Nigeria?? My people be the judge. HOW TRUE IS THE DSS STORY. Do you believe it? Do you think Nigerians need a better explaination? Or We should just believe like the Director of Defence Information recommended? Share your thoughts.
