Photos: Michael Jackson's children visit his hometown for birthday celebration

The late King of Pop Michael Jackson would have turned 56 years old on Friday. And in honour of the late pop star's birthday, his children Prince, Paris, and Blanket visted his hometown of Gary, Indiana for an intimate family celebration.

The occasion marked the first time all three Jackson children have been seen together in quite some time, as Paris have been living in Utah at a boarding school where she's receiving therapy after she tried to take her own life by cutting herself a year ago.

Brothers Prince, 17, and Blanket, 12, also got into the spirit of the occasion, smiling as they remembered their father warmly rather than dwelling on his death, which came far too soon at the age of 50 on June 25, 2009.

Even the city of Gary felt the need to honour the legend by hosting a Michael Jackson Tribute Festival Of The Arts which began on August 28.

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome’s wife reportedly files for divorce, accuses him of adultery

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome and his wife, Anita

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome of Christ Embassy Church, and his wife, Anita Odegwa Oyakhilome, are reportedly undergoing divorce proceedings.

Anita is said to be filing for divorce on grounds of "adultery and unreasonable behaviour," The Citizen reports.

According to reports, the divorce case with Suit No FD14D01650, was filed on April 9, 2014 at Divorce Section A, Central Family Court, First Avenue House, High Holborn, London, UK.

An elder of Christ Embassy reportedly told news sources that Pastor Chris is denying the allegations of adultery, and that he is convinced that his wife is being influenced by "bad friends" who want to destroy their home.

In addition to the adultery accusations, it is alleged that Anita is accusing her husband of relegating her in church affairs. On the other hand, sources say Pastor Chris thinks his wife is trying to "usurp power and authority above her seniors in the ministry."

Reports also state that all efforts being made to reconcile the couple have failed.

The dissolution of the couple's marriage is said to be in the final phases.

They have two teenage daughters, Sharon and Charlyn.

Boko Haram is funded through CBN - Boko Haram negotiator reveals

Stephen Davis

Stephen Davis - an Australian hostage negotiator who was hired by the Nigerian government to help negotiate with Boko Haram members to facilitate the release of abducted Chibok school girls, is revealing more information he alleges to be true.

Last Friday, DavidvsNaija brought you the news that Davis mentioned the name of former Borno state governor, Alimodu Sheriff as a sponsor of the Boko Haram terrorist group. (Read Here)

In another interview, he tells The Cable that Boko Haram insurgents informed him that a senior CBN official was involved in funding their terrorism activities. According to him, the official currently works in the currency operations division of the bank, and is the one handling the transactions.

Speaking on why Western countries have been unable to trace Boko Haram's source of funding, he says funding is done through "…a legal channel, through the gatekeeper – the CBN, and that makes it very easy to cover up."

Read more excerpts from the interview:

He said "One of the biggest of suppliers of arms and military uniforms to the JAS (Jama'atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda'awati wal-Jihad, better known as Boko Haram) currently lives in Cairo, Egypt. He is the recipient of money sent by political sponsors from Nigeria. The funds go through the CBN's financial system and appear to be a legal transaction.

"Meanwhile, the CBN official who handles the funding is an uncle to three of those arrested in connection with the Nyanya bombings. The three boys lived with him. They were arrested by the SSS (Department of State Security) after the bombings but they do not seem to have been interrogated about their uncle in CBN. Or if they have given up information about their uncle then the SSS has not moved against him."

Former governor of Borno sponsors Boko Haram - Boko Haram negotiator reveals

Australian hostage negotiator, Stephen Davis, who was hired by the Nigerian government some months back to help negotiate with Boko Haram members to facilitate the release of abducted Chibok girls, in an interview with Arise News TV, mentioned the name of former Borno state governor, Alimodu Sheriff as a sponsor of the terrorist group, Boko Haram. He also said that an unnamed past Chief of Army Staff who was sacked by President Jonathan was also a sponsor of the terror group.

In the video released yesterday, Davis was very quick to mention the names of the alleged sponsors.

"The first thing to do.. go and arrest former Governor, Sheriff. Former Borno Governor Sheriff who has been funding this for years. He hooks these guys up. He is so frightened that he has switched party to the ruling PDP in the hope that this would give him protection. That guy has really got to go and you know he is enormously corrupt."

"Why the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has not yet picked him up is anybody's guess. There is a...the former Chief of Army Staff retired in January but was actually sacked by the President is another sponsor..I would give you the names if you like, I have no fear of.this. We are very confident and in fact Boko Haram senior commanders who have been naming them in the interactions I have had with them over many months, confirming what we knew sometime before from other commanders" he said.

Boko Haram declares sharia in Gwoza, occupies churches

Following the take over of Gwoza town in Borno State and the recent occupation of the terrorists in Madagali, in Adamawa State, the Islamic extremists have reportedly declared sharia in the areas and have taken over churches.

Director, Social Communications of the Catholic Diocese of Maiduguri, gave the revelation on Thursday, in an electronic statement sent to journalists in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, had, last week Thursday, declared Gwoza town seized by his men and, in a video obtained by AFP, said his group would not leave the town.

The Nigerian military initially denied that Boko Haram had taken over the town but on Wednesday, the military, through the Director, Defence Information, said it would soon reassert Nigeria's sovereignty in portions that had been violated illegally by Boko Haram.

According to a statement by the Catholic Diocese, Boko Haram had advanced in its rampage and had declared a caliphate in Gwoza, a town bordering Borno and Adamawa states.

"As it is well known, the Catholic Diocese of Maiduguri covers the whole of Yobe, Borno and Adamawa states, the three states under strict emergency rule.

"Apart from the churches within Maiduguri that have great share of such attacks by the terrorist group, all the churches on the major road linking Maiduguri and Adamawa State have been closed down due to same act of terrorism," the statement read.

It further added that "St Timothy's Bama had been under siege since last year. The parish priest, Reverend Father Timothy Cosmas, had long been relocated to a different parish.

"At the early part of this year, St. Peter's Pulka was badly attacked. Thanks to God, the Pastor, Fatrher James John was luckily unavailable. The terrorists searched and wanted to kill the holy priest of God.

"Lately, precisely on Friday, August 22, 2014, the dreaded group had moved steadily and yet more boldly into Gwoza, which is in Borno State and the neighbouring Madagali Local Government Area in Adamawa State, declaring a caliphate.

"The assisting priest of St. Denis Madagali, Father Aiden Ibrahim, fled the parish with some of his parishioners to the mountains, upon hearing serious fire battle from the terrorists.

"Report reaching the Director, Social Communications, Reverend Father Obasogie, in Maiduguri has it that the whole town and the parish rectory have been occupied by the terrorists, so many structures and items have been vandalised.

"A lot of church structures have been burnt. Christians in the town are really in a terrible situation. Their houses are now occupied by Boko Haram."

Reacting to the development, the Borno State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Gideon Jibrin, said he was not aware of the development, but promised to find out.

Boko Haram: President Jonathan finally begs Obasanjo for solution

President Goodluck Jonathan has finally reached out to former President Olusegun Obasanjo for ideas on how to tackle Boko Haram insurgency which is ravaging the North-East region of the country, with the terrorists capturing Gwoza, a Nigerian territory, and declaring it an Islamic caliphate.

This development suggests a rethink by the Jonathan administration which had all along disregarded Mr. Obasanjo's proposal to commence talks with the extremist Boko Haram sect through an informal channel.

President Jonathan is so desperate for solution that he offered to fly to Abeokuta to meet with Mr. Obasanjo. But the former president however offered to travel to Abuja to meet Mr. Jonathan out of respect for the office of the president.

Mr. Obasanjo confirmed the meeting which took place on wednesday on arrival back to his base in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

"Yes, I can confirm that I met with Mr. President on his invitation," he told journalists. "In fact, he had wanted to come down to Abeokuta, but as a sign of respect to the Office of the President, I had to go. We had discussion on the country's security issues and that is all."

The former President appreciated Mr. Jonathan's invitation and assured the administration that, in the interest of peace and progress of the country, he would continue to make himself available whenever solutions are being sought for knotty national issues.

Details of the discussions between the two leaders are unclear. It is also not clear whether Mr. Jonathan has now given the former President the nod to explore talks with the Boko Haram contacts he has identified.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Reuben Abati, confirmed the meeting but said he had no details of what was discussed.

"It was a meeting between the two of them and only them can say what was discussed, Mr. Abati told PREMIUM TIMES.

El-Rufai is one of Boko Haram’s commander - Ex Army Chief

Former Chief of Army Staff, General Onyeabor Azubuike Ihejirika today declared that the former minister of the Federal Capital Territory and APC Chieftain, Mallam Nasir El-Rufia is one of the frontline Commanders of the Boko Haram terrorist group.

Speaking with Vanguard over allegation by the former minister that he (Ihejirika) and former Governor Modu Sheriff of Borno State were fingered as terrorists sponsors, General Ihejirika said he is not surprised that this unimaginable allegation is coming from 'one of the Boko Haram Commanders'.

"The (Commanders) including El-
Rufai know where the problem is. Heshould stop deceiving Nigerians bytrying to divert attention".

According to Ihejirika, "When the Boko Haram operation started, supporters of the sect like El-Rufai said that there was nothing like Boko Haram and that the army was just killing innocent youths".

"If you also remember, not too long ago, some of their supporters including El-Rufai said that I was re-inventing the killing of the Ibos during the Biafra war following government's determination to rid the country of terrorism.

Ihejirika who was obviously angry while speaking on phone, also said, "The likes of El-Rufai started the campaign of human right abuses, inorder to divert the international attention of the heinous crime being committed by the Boko Haram terrorists".

Continuing the former Army Chief said, "The likes of El-Rufai have been supporting Boko Haram. In fact, El-Rufai and his likes are the same group of people that ensured the army did not to get the requested equipment to deal with this menace once and for all, as they used their cohorts to tell the government that procuring modern equipment were not necessary".

Recalling that the same El-Rufai went to Thisday Newspaper premises to grant interview to condemn security forces for the efforts at ridding the country of these senseless mayhem by the terrorists, Ihejirika said, "At the onset of this crisis, I was the first person to declare that the country was at war but group of sponsors led by El-Rufai disagreed, that it was not true".

"It is the same group of El-Rufai that started the human right abuses campaign. It was done in order to block any international assistance after the state of emergency was declared and the sect was initially tamed. That gave Boko Haram time and respite to build up again".

Furthermore, General Ihejirika said that when the United States was to initially declare Boko Haram a terrorist organization, the same El-Rufai and his group mounted pressure on the international community, using alleged human right abuses as campaign strategy.

The former Army Chief revealed that this same group including El-Rufai have taken further steps in support of Boko Haram, "which I cannot disclose for now".

It will be recalled that shortly after his tenure came to an end as COAS,some Northern political elites started the crusade for General Azubuike Ihejirika to be summoned before the International criminal Court in the Hague claiming that he killed their sons and daughters innocently whereas it is on record that no other military leader but Ihejirika did a lot in helping the nation contain the rapid spread of Boko Haram insurgency in the country.

He not only established the 7th Division of the Nigerian Army with headquarters in Maiduguri, he established new Army Brigades, Counter Terrorism Schools in Kachia and Jaji as well as the Terrorism Training School.

Boko Haram: Borno residents now carry dane guns for self-protection

Following the incessant attacks by Boko Haram and the capture of Damboa, Gwoza and recently Ngamboru Ngala and Bank area by the insurgents, residents of Maiduguri now carry locally-made guns freely to protect themselves.

Maiduguri was once a peaceful city, but due to the raging insurgency, which has led to the displacement of thousands from rural communities to Maiduguri the Borno State capital, youths are now seen openly displaying locally-made firearms.

It was gathered that the creation of the civilian Joint Task Force (JTF), a vigilante group, comprising of young men, who volunteered to protect communities, had further compounded the matter, as they were seen all over the city, carrying locally-made guns.

According to them, they need to protect their lives and it had
become necessary to be fully armed at all times because the Boko Haram members were too deadly to be taken for granted.

Community leader, Mohammed Ali, who was also seen also carrying gun, said it became necessary given the situation the people found themselves.

When asked how he got his gun, he said "we reached an agreement to purchase these guns and we ordered for them from Damboa. I bought this gun for N8,000.

"The government promised to provide each of us with one, but we have to undergo screening before they make the final selection to ascertain those of us with unquestionable character to give it to," he explained.

It was also gathered that these brave young men had been able to maintain peace and normalcy within the city of Maiduguri for sometime now.

Note: The above photo is for illustration. It is not the real photo of Maiduguri residents carrying dane gun.

Fear: Boko Haram relocates abducted Chibok girls from Sambisa forest

Chibok girls

There were fears yesterday that Boko Haram terrorists may have relocated the over 200 abducted girls of Government Secondary School, Chibok and other abducted victims from Sambisa forest to their new haven in Balmo Forest, which borders Borno and Bauchi states.

Vanguard gathered that communities contiguous to Sambisa forest raised the alarm through phone messages when they saw a large number of Boko Haram militants leaving the dense jungle early in the day on Wednesday and driving towards the border town with Bauchi.

The apparent relocation of the insurgents follows an embarrassing incident two days ago when close to 500 Nigerian soldiers fled to neighbouring Cameroon in order to escape from a fierce contingent of Boko Haram militants that attacked.Gamboru-Ngala, a major town near the border with Cameroon.

A text message sent by Vanguard last night to the Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade on the issue, was not responded to.

It will be recalled that the Chibok girls were abducted in April this year.

Security sources believed that the insurgents were relocating from Sambisa forest for fears of a major offensive by the military in a bid to rescue the abducted girls and demobilise their operational headquarters.

Boko Haram recaptures Gamboru-Ngala, Nigerian soldiers flee to Cameroon

Boko Haram, today made further advances in territorial grab by once more taking over Gamboru-Ngala, a key township on the border between Nigeria and Cameroon.

According to reports, the insurgents first attacked and sacked an army barracks in Ngala known as Harmony Camp before proceeding to Gamboru where they took over the town without any military resistance.

In a response to the attacks, the Nigerian Air Force jet later dropped a massive bomb in the middle of Gamboru after hovering for several minutes in the air. The jet then left while the militants began a house-to-house raid in Gamboru.

A contingent of Nigerian troops was later seen massing close to a bridge earlier destroyed by insurgents during their first attack on Gamboru.

A security source told SaharaReporters that Boko Haram desperately wants to seize full control of Gamboru-Ngala because the extensive area offers great strategic advantages.

"If they completely capture the township, Boko Haram will be able to use it to transact economic and military business," said the source. He further explained, "The township will enable them [to] freely move arms into Nigeria in order to fortify their control of the seized territories they have declared an Islamic Caliphate."

Some 480 Nigerian soldiers have fled into Cameroon following the fierce fighting with Boko Haram militants, Cameroon's army has said.

Army spokesman, Lt Col Didier Badjek, said the soldiers had been disarmed and were now being accommodated in schools.

Boko Haram declares Gwoza Islamic Caliphate in new video, Shows scenes of soldiers fleeing

Boko Haram Caliphate

Leader of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau yesterday released a video in which he declared that the group had formed a caliphate in Gwoza, a town in Borno State. The video showed scenes of carnage carried out by his fighters against unarmed civilians. The video, which is the most gruesome since Boko Haram started the tradition of periodic releases of videotaped messages, also shows Nigerian soldiers fleeing from approaching insurgents.

"Thanks be to Allah who has given us victory in Gwoza and made us part of the Islamic caliphate. Thanks be to Allah. We are in an Islamic caliphate and we have nothing to do with Nigeria," Shekau, who spoke in arabic, said in the video published on Youtube by AFP.

Shekau in the video revealed that Boko Haram also executed some of its members whom he described as infidels.

Meanwhile the Defence Headquarters in a tweet on its twitter handle stated that "the claim is empty".

"The sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Nigerian state is still intact.

"Any group of terrorists laying claim to any portion of the country will not be allowed to get away with the expression of delusion and crime.

"Appropriate military operations to secure that area from the activities of the bandits is still ongoing," the tweet read.

Excerpts of the transcribed speech by Shekau are provided below:

"I chose to deliver this message in order to refute the lies being spread by the government, about the operations we had in recent times.

"We warn the vigilantes called civilian JTF to back off; if not, there will be no place for them to hide. We have evidence of how you killed some of our brethren whom you would ask if they were Boko Haram members before you killed them. We know how you humiliated them by asking them if they had ever carried guns or killed someone…We know everything about the evil you committed against our brethren.

"We still have the magnanimity of asking you to repent because you will never succeed in this way by the grace of Allah. And I swear by Allah that we will never stop killing you, because Allah commanded us to kill people like you. If we pity you and spare you, one day you will become infidels. So, to us, having pity on you is an act of disbelief. You can continue to run or hide your identities in women's attire, but we will get to you and remove the women's clothing off of you. Then, while you are shouting for mercy, we will strike, smash your heads and kill you all. Even if you don't do anything to us we will kill you...We would do it even to avenge our brethren. You killed our brethren in large numbers.

"We don't joke with religion (quoting from the Koran). There is no hypocrisy in this religion. It is only the truth.

"We are not proud of our strength, nor with our weapons nor with anything we have but we are only proud of victory from Allah the exalted. Victory is only from God. Who is America in the sight of Allah? Who is America in the sight of Allah? Who is Israel in the sight of Allah? Who is France in the sight of Allah?"

Ogun state governor shuts down Olabisi Onabanjo University

Following the continued protests from students over their tuition fees, Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun has ordered the closure of Olabisi Onabanjo University, OOU in Ago-Iwoye.

In a statement released by Barrister Taiwo Adeoluwa, Secretary to State Government of the State, the government said it had no "option than to order the immediate closure of all the campuses of Olabisi Onabanjo University to protect the students and other residents of the state and their property."

The students, according to the government have continued to issue threats while rejecting all entreaties and concessions made by the government on their various demands concerning the recently announced reduction of school fees.

Kidnapped Chibok Girls: Parents want case closed, say funeral rites already performed

After more than four months of unfruitful search for the Chibok girls who were abducted by Boko Haram, the parents of the school girls say they want the matter closed.

Since the girls have been missing for more than four months, the parents said they presumed the students to have died for which their funeral rites have already been performed in their (parents') minds according to their custom.

They, however, urged the federal government bring the girls' corpses for honourable burial.

This position was disclosed yesterday by the #BringOurGirls advocacy group, during its daily sit-out meeting for the rescue of the missing school girls at Unity Fountain, Abuja.

"All they said they want is their corpses to bury them honourably," the group said.

As a way of driving their demand home, the group said it is vigorously mobilizing people on and offline and via social media towards holding a mega protest march in the FCT.

According to them, over 200 groups in Abuja have so far been contacted and have given positive response to participate, with 135 individuals on the group's database contacted.

While calling on federal government to double its effort to free the girls, the meeting said only political and military action can rescue our girls, and that is why we do what we are doing to compel that.

The group added a new slogan #NotWithoutOurDaughters! in response to a question on when it will stop the campaign.

Boko Haram expand territory, take over another Borno village

Boko Haram

Boko Haram has taken over another village in Borno state.

Members of the Boko Haram sect on Thursday night stormed Pulka village of Gwoza and sacked the whole community before hoisting their black and white flags.

Pulka is about 20 kilometres from destroyed Gwoza town which is also located between Borno and Cameroon republic surrounded by Mandara Mountains.

Although, this was not the first time Pulka was being attacked, the latest attack which occurred on Thursday evening was the deadliest with quite a number of residents being killed. Houses, shops, and vehicles were set ablaze before the insurgents dislodged the community and established a settlement there.

Vanguard reports that competent and reliable sources told their correspondent that "the insurgents, large in number, and using Rocket Propelled Launchers, Improvised Explosive Devices and petrol bombs, invaded Pulka and opened fire on innocent civilians before overpowering security operatives and vigilante groups and hoisting their flags".

A close political associate to Governor Kashim Shettima from Gwoza who was not authorized to talk to the Press and who pleaded anonymity confirmed the attack and the taking over of Pulka community by the Boko Haram sect on Thursday.

"Yes some Boko Haram terrorists invaded Pulka and killed many innocent people and destroyed a lot of houses before hoisting their flags in different locations of Pulka. We, the people of Gwoza are very worried with the spate of killings and destruction by terrorists without military or security agencies confronting them.

"The terrorists are now having a field day in any community they storm in Gwoza. Just last Wednesday, the terrorists invaded the Police Mobile Training Camp in nearby Limankara village and took over the facilities on ground."

All effort to get the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Gideon Jubrin proved abortive as his phone line was switched off as at the time of going to press.

"I have moved on" - Coach Stephen Keshi dumps Super Eagles

Coach Stephen Keshi is done coaching Nigeria.

It would be recalled that after his contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) expired, it was reported that the NFF was in talks with him on coming back as the coach of the national football team. Keshi's alleged demand was better pay and a few additions to continue as coach.

Since then nothing as being said. Well Whatever the delay is, Keshi say he is done waiting.

In a chat with the BBC Sports , he says "I have moved on. I can only wish the country well for the future."

The 52-year-old added that; "I've had about seven countries approach me in the last two months but I kept them all away.

There's a game in two weeks (Nations Cup qualifier against Congo) but no-one is thinking about it and at the same time they expect you to win.

I understand the ongoing crisis facing the federation but the national team should not suffer from such at this crucial stage.

Sadly, I also think attention is focused more on the upcoming NFF elections and the national team is simply not a priority.

I love my country and I am aware of the dream our fans had of me taking this team to the next level.

While acknowledging the efforts of some people involved in the negotiation, I think others probably have other important things to do."

Boko Haram takes over Yobe town

Boko Haram has taken over control of Buni Yadi in Yobe state, northeastern Nigeria, witnesses and a local official said Thursday.

Several residents who fled the Boko Haram assault on Buni Yadi said it began late last month, with the insurgents ultimately taking over the main government building.

They have reportedly raised their flag above the building and have carried out summary executions, including of two people who were caught smoking cigarettes.

Abdullahi Bego, the spokesman for Yobe's Governor Ibrahim Geidam, could not confirm the executions. But he told AFP: "As I speak there are no military in Buni Yadi and locals say that Boko Haram come and go as they please.

"So many people from Buni Yadi have fled to the state capital Damaturu," he added.

Residents said the rebels, who massacred dozens of students at a boarding school in Buni Yadi in February and kidnapped more than 200 schoolgirls from neighbouring Borno state in April, had set up roadblocks.

They were also robbing people as they tried to flee.

"I left Buni Yadi yesterday (Wednesday) because it was no longer safe for me and my family," said trader Surajo Muhammad.

The gunmen "shot dead two men for smoking and they also killed a known drug peddler", he added.

Tijjani Bukar, who also fled, reported the same executions.

"I couldn't stay any longer because I came to realise these people have come to stay," he said.

"I thought they would be there for a few days but from our understanding they have turned the town into their (territory)."

The United Nations has confirmed that Boko Haram had seized control of the towns of Damboa and Gwoza in Borno state in recent weeks.

There are indications that Damboa was retaken by the military in an offensive earlier this month but details are not clear.
