The Nigerian army is set to arraign 16 soldiers over the abduction of the over 200 school girls who were abducted in April by Boko Haram insurgents from Government Secondary School, Chibok in Borno State.
According to a report on Punch, the officers are being charged for failure to perform military duty, an offence that attracts a maximum of two years.
The night the schoolgirls were kidnapped, the soldiers, who were not stationed within the school, were reportedly told that their camp was about to be attacked by Boko Haram so they left their location in Chibok to lay in ambush for the insurgents.
They were said to have lost a soldier during the face-off with the Boko Haram members.
The soldiers, 3 officers while the remaining 13 soldiers belong to other ranks, will appear before the General Court Martial at the Maxwell Khobe Military Cantonment, Rukuba, Jos in Plateau State after the Sallah holidays.
