Former Speaker of the House of Representative, Dimeji Bankole, on Wednesday, lost his six-year-old daughter, Yewande Seminat Bankole, to Sickle cell disease.
According to a statement made available to newsmen by the family, Yewande was born with HbSS Sickle cell disease, which was managed at a Lagos hospital, before she was transferred to St. Mary's Children's Hospital in London, where she finally gave up the ghost.
The statement said, "With gratitude to Almighty Allah and with heavy heart, we announce the demise of our daughter Yewande Semiat Bankole, aged 6 years at St Mary's Children's hospital, London, on October 1, 2014. Her remains would be buried according to Islamic rites."
