Emir of Kano, Muhammed Sanusi II

The Emir of Kano, Muhammed Sanusi II yesterday arrived Nigeria and went straight to the scene of the bomb blast that occurred on Friday in Kano Central Mosque killing over 200 worshipers.

The Emir who normally leads prayers in the mosque was out of Nigeria when the attack was carried out.

During his 20 minutes visit to the blast scene, the Emir said with the way the attacks were carried out, it showed it was well planned and had taken the perpetrators close to two months to plan it.

"From all indications, they (attackers) have been planning this for at least two months. I have directed that the mosque be washed and cleaned and prayers should continue here. We will never be intimidated into abandoning our religion, which is the intention of the attackers" he said.

Staring at women’s breasts make men live longer and healthier

I find this hilarious.

A study has shown that staring at women's breasts for a length of time is beneficial to the men's health.

The study done by a German scientist, Dr. Karen Weatherby, and published in the New England Journal of Medicine, said staring at women's breasts is not only healthy, but also elongates the life span of such men.

The study, which was carried out over a period of five years, involved 500 men, half of whom were instructed to stare at women's breasts in a lustful manner for at least 10 minutes every day, while the other half were instructed to abstain from doing such.

Weatherby concluded that men who stared at the breasts more often, as instructed, showed lower rates of heart problems, a lower resting heart rate and lower blood pressure, all of which enable a healthy living and long life. He said men should stare at breasts for 10 minutes a day to improve the wellness of their hearts and live longer.

Weatherby said, "Just 10 minutes of staring at the charms of a well-endowed female everyday is roughly equivalent to a 30-minute aerobics work-out. When the two groups of men were tested, men that stared at breasts daily had lower blood pressure, slower resting pulse rates, as well as fewer instances of coronary artery disease.

"Sexual excitement gets the heart pumping and improves blood circulation. Gazing at breasts makes men healthier and engaging in this activity a few minutes daily cuts the risk of stroke and heart attack by half. We believe that by doing so consistently, the average man can extend his life for four to five years."

In another study carried out on 200 male outpatients at three hospitals in Frankfurt, Germany, in same order with the previous study, half of the participants were told to look at female breasts, while the other half were told to refrain from doing so. After five years of issuing the instruction and monitoring the effect on the participants, it was found out that the chest-watchers had a healthier heart, as identified above and have the tendency of living longer than the other group.

LOL so guys if you want to live longer... you know what to do!

Over 200 Muslims killed as Boko Haram bombs Kano Central Mosque

Over 200 Muslim worshippers were sent to their grave yesterday by a triple blast that rocked Kano Central Mosque, where the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, normally leads prayers.

The emir was said to have travelled to Saudi Arabia late on Thursday night from Paris.

It was gathered that two Improvised Explosive Device inside the mosque and one outside the mosque exploded simultaneously at the point worshippers had congregated for the Friday Jumat prayers.

It was learned that there was sporadic gunshots after the blast, while several worshippers fleeing the scene were felled by stray bullets.

According to eyewitness, many children who accompanied their guardians to the mosque were trampled during the ensuing confusion.

It could not be ascertained at press time whether the attacks were aimed at the Emir of Kano, who had recently called on the people to take steps to defend themselves against Boko Haram.

Olamide's Story For The Gods: A Nigerian Song Recommending Rape?

Olamide's Story For The Gods

This article wasn't written by me. I found it on Sahara Reporters. It's quite interestingly serious.

This is perhaps the most difficult article I'll ever write. It is difficult because I write with a frustrating reality in mind that I am most likely wasting my time. For once I write about an evil, so evil it is unspeakable, yet I feel there is no hope; no one will come to my aide, no one will come to the aide of the women who were violated and their dignity taken away so much so that death will feel better. No, people will celebrate the culture and people will dance to its tunes. Oh, I feel hopeless!

We heard, and some others watched, the other day when some undergraduates took turns to rape a fellow student and videotaped it somewhere in South of Nigeria. And we heard, and some watched, as she begged them to kill her; oh she would have been relieved if only they would oblige her and sniff life out of her; it was better than this horror, this pain, this hurt, this humiliation, this violation, and this absolute damage. Oh, death is not this bad she must have thought; for once she must have desired it, instead of this. Just anything instead of this. I can't imagine, if you have not been raped, you also cannot imagine. If you could imagine and if we, as a people, could imagine we would not promote songs that praise rape no matter how subtle

I first heard Mr. Olamide Adedeji's song "Story for the Gods" in a cab. The driver kept repeating the song so I was forced to notice it. Any person with a musical background will notice the wittiness of the producer and the smoothness of the artiste but for my religious convictions I decided to ignore, as I will usually do. Two days later the song kept playing in my head and as I try to fight it I gave a thought to the lyrics of what was coming to my head and I was shocked. In curiosity I searched for the lyrics, got a translation from a Yoruba friend for the Yoruba parts and my mouth dropped open. What? A song praising rape? I died!

Mr. Adedeji begins his song by telling his fans how he took alcohol and weed and then he proclaims "I want to do Sina today". The translator described "Sina" as a street slang for "fornication/adultery" but that is what he knows. Sina is how some Yoruba persons will pronounce "Zina" which is the technical term for fornication and adultery in Islamic jurisprudence. So he was not only boasting about fornication as a lot of his colleagues do, he was calling it a religious name to make his point clearer and more grievous.

The fellow goes ahead to narrate how the girl with whom he wants to fornicate with is giving excuses. He spoke of how she said she can't wait, how she said it is getting late, and how she said she wants to faint, and he dismissed this excuses as "story for the gods" meaning he is not going to take no for an answer, he is not going to listen to her, he MUST do this today and nothing, not even the absence of her consent will stop him

In case that was not convincing enough he continues so that there will be no doubts. He narrates how the lady started saying he is in trouble, "he has broken my back, he has broken my arm" and he again dismiss this again as story for the gods, meaning not even the back breaking and arm breaking or the trouble he is threatened with will stop him from having his way with her. He MUST do this and he must do so by force. Oh God! Our people did not stone him, they did not even say please we do not want this; they accepted this obvious and heartless glorification of rape. What have we turn into?

By telling us her excuse yet insisting he must force her, Mr. Olamide is telling the world and teaching his fans one of two things. It is either she wants it but she is lying because that is how they lie, or 'she does not want it' must not be a good reason for "big boy" not to have it. You may think the latter is more clearly rape but ironically the former is even more popular among rapists; they assume the no of women mean yes. If a musician of his caliber endorses this then what happens to the millions of youths who want to do everything he does? When will they ever hear a "no" and take it as such? How many girls will be raped for this wicked orientation? And who will give them justice?

Someone said rape is the most easy accusation to make and the most difficult to prove. This explains why even in the so called advanced countries about 90% of rapeincidents are not reported. The victim either "end it all" or enters into prostitution thereafter and/or she becomes enslaved for life, often, to depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), flashbacks, sleeping and eating problems, dissociative personality disorder, guilt, feeling of worthlessness, among other countless psychological problems. All of these while dealing with the usual physical challenge of painful sexual intercourse, urinary infection, Uterine Fibroid, and whatever sexually transmitted disease her rapist has to offer. All of these while Mr. Olamide makes his money, drinks more alcohol and encourage the public to rape more girls

I do agree with those who say rape is the crime in which a person is left with the most violation. What violation can be more than being a victim of rape and hearing a songpraising rape everywhere around you because the people do not care neither does the government

As if this impunity was not enough, Mr. Olamide goes ahead to make a video of this song. A video so painfully humiliating to women you will excuse the song itself. He tops all these atrocities with a display of lesbianism whereas the law of the land says.

"The public show of same sex amorous relationship directly or indirectly is prohibited. A person
who registers, operates or participate in gay clubs, societies and organisation, or DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY MAKES PUBLIC SHOW OF SAME SEX AMOROUS RELATIONSHIP IN NIGERIA COMMITS AN OFFENCE AND IS LIABLE ON CONVICTION TO A TERM OF 10 YEARS IMPRISONMENT." - Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act, 2013 stated in Section 4&5, subsections 2

But then after presenting all these facts to me I asked my Secretary why such a man has not been arrested and he gave me an answer that broke my heart. He said "sir, he has a lot of money, so nothing will happen"

While innocent Nigerians spend years in detention without trial for as much as being accused of stealing water melon, we are watching to see what will happen now that the boastfully wealthy is on record promoting rape and bullshiting the law. We truly hope something happens this time around. We truly hope that Mr. Olamide withdraws this evil of a song and apologises to everyone or the police does the needful. None of these two seem likely however. I guess the Rape (mind the "e") Ambassador will laugh within wine and tell his boys how this is yet another story for the gods….and nothing will happen. I am glad God Almighty is not man and I am glad He has promise to pay everyone back in their own coin. There is hope after all

2015 Election: Prepare your charms and other native powers - Tinubu tells Nigerians

Aregbesola second term in office inauguration

The national leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Bola Tinubu, during the inauguration of Governor Rauf Aregbesola for a second term in office, on Thursday in Osogbo, Osun State, asked Nigerians to prepare their charms and other native powers for the 2015 election.

Speaking to the crowd that thronged the venue of the event, Tinubu said, "we are today celebrating your firm stand, courage, determination and steadfastness. The greatest philosophy that started in Osun is common sense revolution. It is the ability to send these people away. They take from you and steal from all of us. Is Nigeria better off in the past four years? It is getting worse."

Meanwhile Aregbesola in his speech, titled: "Continuing on our path of greatness," said "the PDP stands for poverty, mystery and insecurity. They are prepared to sacrifice the entire nation for their hold on power."

Bomb blast rocks Adamawa state, 35 feared killed

No fewer than 35 people including 5 military personnel and a local hunter were reported to have been killed this morning by a bomb explosion around Mararaba-Mubi area of Adamawa State.

The explosion prompted the military authorities to declare the area "a no go place" and advised returning villagers and passersby to be extra cautious along the routes.

The authorities also cautioned the people to be vary of strange objects and polythene bags within their reach, advising that they might be explosives fashioned out to look attractive for unknown victims.

IG of police says it’s not right to call Tambuwal speaker

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Suleiman Abba, on Wednesday, insisted that Speaker Aminu Tambuwal is no longer the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

This follows Tambuwal's defection from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Abba, at an investigative hearing convened by the Hon. Usman Kumo led House Committee on Police Affairs over the November 20 police attack on the National Assembly, repeatedly referred to the Speaker as "Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal", a development that infuriated the lawmakers.

A member of the House Committee, Hon. Muniru Hakeem Abiodun (Lagos/APC), threatened to walk out on the meeting if the IGP insisted on addressing Tambuwal as 'Alhaji' instead of his official title. Other members made similar threats.

The investigative hearing was, however, abruptly adjourned indefinitely after the IGP stood his ground insisting that it would be "subjudice" for him to address Tambuwal as speaker or any matter relating to him so long as such a matter was in court.

"Buhari cannot Islamize Nigeria" - Amaechi

Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has dismissed claims that the All Progressives Congress is an Islamic party.

Amaechi, who spoke on Wednesday during an interactive session with students at the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education in Port Harcourt, insisted that the party had no intention to Islamise Nigeria should it win the 2015 presidential election.

He said, "APC is not an Islamic party. This is so because when General Muhammad Buhari (rtd) was Nigeria's Head of State as a young man, he did not Islamize Nigeria, and to do that, he needs the endorsement of the National Assembly to debate over the issue. Buhari cannot Islamize Nigeria. Don't be perturbed by what our detractors are saying.

"I am an ardent Catholic Christian and I converse with God a lot. It is not true that APC will Islamize Nigeria. The National Chairman of APC, Mr. John Oyegun is a Christian. Bola Tinubu's wife is also a Christian, Buhari's cook is a Christian from Igboland, his driver is also a Christian. As a father to all of those Christians, Buhari gives Sunday as a free day to his domestic staff to go to church and worship God. So, no one can believe what our detractors are saying about Buhari and APC."

"We shall remain one" - Pastor Kumuyi says Nigeria won’t break up in 2015

Pastor William Kumuyi

The General Superintendent of the Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor William Kumuyi, has said that despite the political tension, insecurity and predictions, God will not allow Nigeria to break up in 2015.

Kumuyi who spoke on Tuesday during a media briefing for the commencement of the Deeper Life Bible Church three-day crusade at Eiyenkorin in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, advised against utterances and acts that could divide the country, saying that God's purpose is for Nigeria to remain united.

He said "Sometimes people misunderstood the power of prophecy and there are people who will make negative pronouncements. Pronouncements are not necessarily prophecies. Every utterance on Nigeria breaking up is a pronouncement made from observations and not prophecies.

"I believe those who made those pronouncements based on some things they see or feel should say 'they feel Nigeria may break up' and not that God said that. Because if God could hear the voice of only Moses and spared Israel and they still exist over 3,000 years after, then God loves Nigeria and would not allow it to break up.

"God has a purpose for Nigeria. When people talk of division, the truth is that once you start the process, it never ends. Once you say, 'people in the North, go your way and those in the South, go your way,' there are other people who will also rise up to say they too want to go their own way even within you. You know what happened in the 1960s; several sides will begin to be asked to go away but I know that God has a purpose for bringing Nigeria together and we shall remain one."

Kumuyi also advised the electorate not to elect leaders  because of their religious or ethnic cleavages but they should elect them based on their ability to deliver the dividends of democracy and good governance to the people.

He urged the electorate to evaluate the manifestoes of political parties and politicians and vote wisely and rightly.

How i survived prostate cancer - Wole Soyinka reveals

Prof. Wole Soyinka

Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, yesterday, gave a shocking revelation of how he contracted prostate cancer last December and got cured of it in October 2014.

Soyinka disclosed this at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta, while addressing journalists at a press conference tagged 'Beyond Ebola and Beyond reign of the Silent Killer,' which was meant to create awareness on cancer.

He said he decided to make his health status public to encourage cancer patients to go for treatment and not to take the disease as a death sentence.

"In December last year, I discovered that I had cancer, we were making sure that, that was what it was before going for other tests. And once it was established that I did have cancer and I was sure because in my family we had an uncle, at the time he died, we did not have all the sophisticated ways of knowing how he died.

"What killed him was attributed to a lot of things. From the little things I know about cancer, I came to a conclusion that he died of cancer, maybe we have it in our family." he said.

Soyinka said as a private person he would have been silent on it, but he decided to make it public being a member of the Africa Cancer Centre.

He said, "For me, it is not a decision that I am happy with, but I felt I have an obligation being a member of the Africa Cancer Centre and also having donated during the festival of fund raising for cancer, I felt I owe people an obligation to make it known and also to demystify cancer, many people feel it's death sentence. Family, friends and colleagues begin to look at you as if you are a ghost, just because you have cancer."

Encouraging cancer patients, Soyinka said that they should know that cancer affliction should not be seen as a death sentence.

"No, cancer is not a death sentence, it is curable and I have undergone treatment and I am able to tell you that I even have a medal to show for it," he said.

Soyinka, however, appealed to the Federal Government to release the fund already budgeted for cancer treatment and construction of research centres in the country.

He said: "The important thing is that we have enough funds to build all the necessary cancer centres including research that this nation requires. It is very capital intensive, some of it. There are many ways of treating cancer just like there are different types of cancer. Even, diet forms an important part of cancer, diet is critical, the most difficult in the middle of treatment of cancer in fact, was a diet which was prescribed. I have to drink a lot of water. The most painful part of it is that water and I are not friends at least on inside (stomach), no."

Asked how he felt when he was battling with prostate cancer, he said, "To tell you the truth, I do not recollect what I felt. What a nuisance, we deal with nuisances! Whatever it takes, just look at the best way of getting rid of this unwanted squatter in our body."

Photos: President Jonathan visits man who fooled Nigeria into fake ceasefire with Boko Haram

Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan pictured with Chadian President, Idriss Deby in Ndjamena, Chad today. (For those who don't understand the title of this post, Deby was the one who fooled the Nigerian government into agreeing a fake ceasefire deal with Boko Haram. Though it is not certain if it was a deliberate act. Read More)

Boko Haram kills 48 Nigerian fishermen near Chad

Members of the Islamic sect, Boko Haram, reportedly ambushed and slaughtered 48 fish vendors near Nigeria's border with Chad.

A fish traders' group said some victims had their throats slit, while others were tied up and drowned in Lake Chad.

The attack took place on Thursday, but the news took several days to come to light, because the sect had destroyed mobile phone masts in the area.

In Thursday's attack, the traders were on their way to Chad to buy fish when militants blocked their path near the village of Doron Baga, some 180km (112 miles) north of Maiduguri in Borno State.

Abubakar Gamandi, the head of the fish sellers' association, told AFP news agency that the militants used no gun, adding that "the attackers killed their victims silently without the
use of the gun, to avoid attracting attention from the multi-national troops."

Troops from Nigeria, Chad and Niger have been deployed to the area and had a base at Doron Baga.

President Jonathan says he is Nigeria’s best leader | Who agrees with him?

President Goodluck Jonathan has described himself as the best leader to be produced by Nigeria, saying no leader since the country gained independence in 1960 had done better than himself for the country.

President Jonathan who said this in a statement by his Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, in Abuja on Sunday, said the comment made by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, in which the ex-President described Jonathan's performance as below average, was untrue.

"We aver that Obasanjo's comments are untrue, misleading and clearly do not tally with the facts on the ground.

"We therefore wish to assert without equivocation that in terms of performance and achievements, no administration since 1960 when Nigeria gained independence from Britain, has done as much as that of President Jonathan."

Okupe, who had also worked with the former President while in office, added that contrary to Obasanjo's position, the Federal Government under Jonathan had performed excellently given the prevailing circumstances and resources available to it.

DSS operatives, soldiers ransack APC office in Lagos

Operatives of the Department of State Service and soldiers attached to the security unit code-named Operation MESA on Saturday stormed the All Progressives Congress data centre in Lagos and arrested 25 data agents and three security guards.

SUNDAY PUNCH learnt that the security agents also ransacked the duplex located on Ajibola Street, off Allen Avenue, Ikeja, and confiscated computer hardware, which contained the data of APC members in several parts of the country.

It was learnt that the security operatives arrived at the centre as early as 6am and ransacked the building for about two hours before arresting those found on the premises.

According to sources, the DSS acted on a tip-off that the centre was allegedly being used as a warehouse by a former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu, to produce and issue fake Permanent Voter Cards, while another version had it that weapons were being kept at the centre.

However, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Lai Mohammed, said in a statement that the act was part of a ploy by the Peoples Democratic Party-led Federal Government to intimidate the APC ahead of the 2015 elections.

Narrating what transpired, Mohammed said, "In the early hours of Saturday morning, a combined team of men of the DSS and OP-MESA stormed the Bola Ajibola Data Centre belonging to the APC in the Ikeja area of Lagos and arrested 25 APC data agents and three security guards.

"In what was a Gestapo-like operation, the APC membership data centre located at Number 10, Bola Ajibola Street, came under siege between the hours of 5.30am and 7.30am on Saturday.

"An operation of terror and brigandage was unleashed on a legitimate operation of a leading national party. They came without a search warrant for the premises.

"Over 50 security operatives drafted from Abuja operations blocked the two major street entrances to the APC data entry centre, pulled down the gates and spent over two hours ransacking and vandalising the centre. More than a dozen computers were destroyed. The server was also vandalised along with other equipment in the building.

"Just like the Watergate scandal in the USA, the state-sponsored security operatives, apparently acting at the behest of the ruling PDP government, turned the office upside down and pulled out and vandalised everything in sight.

"If the PDP-led government and the security agents had done due diligence and acted professionally, they would have known that the APC data centre is a legitimate operation and the (members of) staff are Nigerian youths who were left jobless by the Jonathan government.

"They chose to believe the lie that it was a warehouse belonging to one of the national leaders of the party where dangerous weapons were being kept, when in fact it is a centre for entering the data provided by the millions of Nigerians who registered as members of the party (APC) during its membership registration exercise."

Mohammed said the DSS were acting on "weak and misinformed intelligence," describing the incident as "the worst political scandal in Nigeria's history."

He maintained that the action must not go unpunished.

2015 elections: INEC to engage Air Force, Navy

The Independent National Electoral Commission has disclosed that it plans to engage the Nigerian Air Force, Navy and other security agencies to provide what it called adequate security for the 2015 polls.

Mr Austin Okojie, the commission's Resident Electoral Commissioner in Taraba, disclosed this while addressing Batch B corps members at NYSC Orientation Camp in Jalingo on Sunday.

Okojie explained that the move was necessary given the level of insecurity in the country.

"The commission is making arrangements with the Nigerian Air Force, Navy and other security agents to ensure safety of lives and property during the 2015 general elections.

"We expect Nigerians to understand that the engagement of security agents to maintain law and order is to enable us to conduct free, fair and acceptable elections'', he said.

Okojie advised corpse members to be patriotic in the elections.

President Jonathan's performance is below average - Obasanjo

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has rated President Goodluck Jonathan's performance as below average.

Obasanjo spoke during an encounter with book writers in Abeokuta, Ogun State, as part of activities marking the popular Ake Festival.

"His performance is below average. I will not accept responsibility for his performance. There is nobody that gets such a position without being helped."

The former President also debunked the insinuations that he had selected Jonathan as the running mate to the late President Musa Yar'Adua because he knew the latter was sick.

"Yar'Adua told me he was well. He showed me his medical report and I even consulted experts", he said.

Meanwhile, the Presidency on Friday said a statement credited to Obasanjo that President Goodluck Jonathan's performance is below average was "not true and in error."

A Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, described Obasanjo's statement as untrue and baseless.

"If indeed former President Obasanjo said that, that statement was in error because no government since independence has done close to 50 per cent of what this administration has done in less than four years," Okupe said.

I failed the nation but sacking me won’t solve Eagles' problems - Coach Keshi

Super Eagles head coach, Stephen Keshi, has hinted that he wants to retain his Job despite the fact that he failed to qualify Nigeria for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

"If a team fails, sacking the coach won't solve the problem. The authority should look beyond the coach to find solutions to the problem," Keshi said.

Keshi, who has been working without a contract since the expiration of his last deal after the World Cup, admitted that the failure to qualify for the 2015 AFCON is a failure on his part.

"I can't deny it is a shame that we failed to qualify, on my part I failed the nation but my players took South Africa for granted in a match they need to win."

Keshi's agent Emma Addo was however silent on his client future, but echoed Keshi's sentiment that the problems of the team go beyond the coach.

Oritsefemi in a new interview revealed that he will be getting married soon, not to any of his childhood girlfriends who have children for him but to his fiancee of two years. Read below...

A lot of your fans are confused about your marital status. For the record, are you married officially?

Honestly, for now, I am not married. But definitely, I am going to get married very soon. I have a fiancee and we have been together for close to two years now.

But you have children?

Yes, I have two beautiful daughters who are between ten and nine years. I have a family and I'm from a polygamous home. I have a responsibility as a father.

Isn't your fiancee the mother of your two daughters?

No. My two daughters are from different mothers and I am not marrying any of them.

What happened?

It's a long story. Back in time, as a street boy, growing up in the ghetto city of Ajegunle, I had some childhood girlfriends who got pregnant.

Then, I had no means of livelihood to sustain them. But I ensured that I took care of my kids right from when they were born.

Unfortunately, I couldn't take care of their mothers because of my financial status then. But now, that God has elevated me, I am planning to take my children abroad.
